Pre-treatment guidelines | Sculptra

  • Schedule your appointment at least two weeks before a special event. Redness, swelling and bruising may be apparent in that time period.

  • To minimize bruising or bleeding, we recommend discontinuing the use of aspirin, NSAIDS, gingko biloba, garlic, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamin A, vitamin E or any other essential fatty acids at least three days to one week before and after treatment. Talk to your primary physician before discontinuing any medications.

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after treatment. These may increase your risk of bruising and swelling.

  • Starting arnica supplements at least two days before injections may help with bruising.

  • Let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed.

  • You may not have an active rash in the area being treated.

  • You’ll need to avoid IPL/BBL photofacials, laser treatments and waxing for seven days before treatment.

  • You may not be pregnant. If breastfeeding, we require clearance from your pediatrician.
